Metabolic reprogramming by Dichloroacetic acid potentiates photodynamic therapy of human breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 cells

ATP Release in response to DCA, 5-ALA and laser-irradiation.

MCF-7 cells were seeded at a density of 1x 105 cells/well in 12-well plates and grown as described above. Cells were treated with 1.0 mM 5-ALA, 108 J/cm2 laser dose and 10 mM DCA alone or in combination as indicated. The release of ATP was measured by relative fluorescence. Data shown are mean values ± SE from three independent experiments, each performed in triplicate. Asterisk shows values significantly different from control. *P ≤ 0.01, **P ≤ 0.001.
