Synthetic Lethality of the bfr and mbfA Genes Reveals a Functional Relationship between Iron Storage and Iron Export in Managing Stress Responses in Bradyrhizobium japonicum

Sensitivity of the double mutant strain to streptonigrin: Cells of the wildtype, bfr, mbfA and the mbfA bfr strains were grown in GSY medium supplemented with 5 μM FeSO4 and treated with either 200 μg/ml of streptonigrin, or equal volume of DMSO for 26 hours.
Cells were then spotted on non-selective plates. Untreated cells are spotted as an additional control.
