The number of AGB–BGB samples is 9 for the temperate meadow steppe and low-land meadow (in the eastern part of Xilingol), 33 for the temperate steppe (the middle part of Xilingol) and 22 for the temperate desert steppe (the western part of Xilingol). The BGB data reported in previous publications were mostly sampled during the summers (July to September) of 2001 to 2005 (Yang et al., 2010).
