Arsenphonus (red signal) was localized in the midgut, salivary gland and bacteriocytes of adult male B. tabaci (C) and Portiera (green signal) was absent in salivary gland as well as in midgut but present in the bacteriocytes (B). All images were viewed under 20× magnification. Arrows in yellow, white and blue indicate the bacteriocytes, salivary gland and midgut respectively. A and D panels show the merged and DIC images of the respective probe.
