Abstract
Limitations in excitation rate and electron temperature have been a significant factor in bounding the performance of longitudinal discharge (LD) copper-vapor lasers (CVLs). However, the technological difficulties associated with high-temperature structures limited early transverse discharge (TD) CVLs to single-pulse and burst-mode operation.1,2 More recent reports from the U.S.S.R. imply a capability for long-term heated operation.3
