Abstract
The fiber-optic network concentrator described here is designed to allow a host computer to service multiple terminals using a high-speed HDLC protocol. Functions provided in the fiber-optic concentrator include RS-422/V.11 driver/receivers for interface to the host, Manchester encoders and decoders, port switching, and self-test. Two complete network concentrators each including power supply, host interface, and eight fiber-optic interface assemblies can be housed in a single 19-in. wide rack, 83/4 in. in height. The two banks can be used independently to service sixteen terminals or collectively to service eight terminals with complete redundancy. Figure 1 shows the block diagram of the system.
