Abstract:
The personified Natura Rerum in Lucretius 3 is a satirist. Her speeches contain the hallmarks of satire, she anticipates guest satirists in later satura, and the personification alludes to a lost passage of Ennius' Saturae. She grants authority and satiric bite to the narrator's refutation of the fear of death.
