I have been a keen reader of the Journal of Colonialism and Colonial History since its launch in 2000, and it is a great honour to have been appointed as editor. Over the past ten years the journal has gone from strength to strength, and I hope that under my watch it will continue to grow as a space for research and discussion.

I would like to thank the founding editor of the journal, Patricia W. Romero, who has now retired from the academy. Pat has left a wonderful legacy to scholars and students of colonialism and colonial history, and the academic community owes a huge debt of gratitude to her. On a more personal note, I want to thank Pat for making the editorial transition so easy, for answering my many queries with patience and good humour, and for her kind words in the last issue of 2010. Warm wishes for your retirement, Pat.

Readers familiar with JCCH will note that I have made a few changes to the editorial board. Former board members Tony Ballantyne, Antoinette Burton, Julia Clancy-Smith, Franklin Knight, Steven Phillips, Ben Vinson III and Lynn Zastoupil have kindly agreed to stay on as board members. Seema Alavi, Margot Finn, Paul Nugent and Cassandra Pybus join them. If readers are interested in submitting an article, or in proposing a discussion paper, roundtable, review essay or special issue, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to working with you all.
