Abstract
Tao Xingzhi was one of the foremost educational reformers in Republican China. Educated in Progressivism at Columbia Teachers College, Tao devoted himself to rural reform through the education of China's peasantry. This biography of Tao examines the interaction of Tao's Western education with his deep roots in Chinese culture, how he turned Dewey to Chinese purposes.
