Deflection of the ski and the ski-snow contacting pressure have been measured during the actual turn on the snow slope. A deflection sensor beam has been attached on the upper surface of the ski. It consists of 9 bending sensors connected with aluminum bars. 8 pressure sensors of 6mm diameter have been also equipped on the bottom surface 5mm apart from the edge along the side curve. The experiment was carried out at Shiga-kogen on a skilled skier in Ogasaka company. The value of the deflection during the turn has good relation with the boot load. The deflection has minor vibration on the large change. Pressure detected at each point fluctuates very much even at 4ms sampling time. Moving average of the pressure showed the similar change with the deflection. Pressure was high under the boot center from about 350mm front to 150mm behind. The change of the pressure at 350mm well agreed with the deflection at the same point. From the shape of the cross section of the snow groove on the turn trajectory, the contacting situation between the edged bending ski and the snow surface has been estimated. The image indicates that the deflected front part of the ski crashes into the snow surface to increase the contacting pressure and the back part of the ski edge slides along the formed snow groove.
