Toxicity tests are conducted in order to confirm the safety of new drugs and materials. Current toxicity tests are based on qualitative assessments depending on the experiences of the person in charge. In this study, we have developed a wearable vital measurement device optimized for experimental rats which are typically used in laboratory animals for toxicity test. We achieved the real-time measurements of blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate and respiration rate from rats. The temporal and quantitative data that could be acquired with the device might allow for highly accurate toxicity testing, reducing the number of animals used and costs.
