The natural convection of a magnetic fluid in a two dimensional cell, whose aspect ratio is one, is studied experimentally and numerically. Result obtaind from experiment and numerical analysis revealed that the vertically imposed magnetic field has destabilizing influence and at the super critical state the flow mode becomes quit different from that without the magnetic field.
