Ruuber has recently been installed in the structure of some bearing in order to suppress the vibration of rotors. One such example is the swing pad bearing. It consists of some segmented pads supported by curved laminates of rubber and metal. The pads tilt according to the deformation of the rubber caused by the rotation of the shaft. Inspite of its self aligning and good stability characteristics, the application of swing pad bearing has been rare in actual machine because of expensive cost of manufacturing due to its complicated configuration.
