A wire mesh damper (WMD) has attracted much attention as a possible vibration suppression device for many kinds of turbomachinery. In recent years, research has been conducted to improve the performance of WMD by taking advantage of the material properties of metals. Nickel-Titanium (Ni-Ti) shape memory alloy which are well-known as one of the vibration-damping material, have been listed as a strong candidate for the damper. In this study, we focused on the damping performance of WMD made of Ni-Ti due to phase transformation based on various temperatures. Forced vibration tests using one-dimensional exciter with heating were carried out to obtain hysteresis loop at multiple temperature conditions. Result shows that energy dissipation of Ni-Ti WMD in the austenite phase was slightly superior to in the martensite phase. Although dynamic stiffness in the austenite phase was higher than martensite phase. The loss factors were decreased with increase of temperature except at the temperature where the martensite and austenite phases coexist. In the coexist phase, increasing trend in loss factor was observed for one temperature condition and it suggested that IF peak which known as a damping characteristic of shape memory alloys appeared.
