Abstract

In this study, we used a series of organic/inorganic acids as deliming agents, alone and in combination. Additionally, deliming was conducted to obtain the optimal mixing ratio of the deliming agents (Sample IV). The heat shrinkage temperature, Ca content, and ammonia gas content were measured and evaluated. Following deliming using Sample IV, the crust was manufactured via pickling, tanning, dyeing, and fatliquoring. The optimal deliming effect was observed when the deliming agent content was 3.0%, tensile strength was 2.4 kgf/mm2, tear strength was 6.8 kgf/mm, and heat shrinkage temperature was 106 ℃. Further, the ammonia content significantly decreased from 342.6 to 4.1 ppm. The environmental impact assessment indicated that when applying the deliming agent used in this study, the total nitrogen content is ~12 times less than that of the existing deliming agent.
