The development of the tracer methods in the drug evaluation study during the past thirty five years was reviewed. Several examples where stable isotope tracer techniques fully demonstrated their advantages were described. The applicability of ¹³C-NMR tracer techniques was discussed. The strategy for the metabolism study of peptides, microplate-radioluminography as a substitute for liquid scintillation counting and a quantitative whole body autoradiography were newly proposed.
