A precision wide band tension control system for home use digital VTR was devepoped using a movable tape guide pin which was inserted at the tape entrance side of a rotary head drum in the tape travelling path. This tension control system was proved to keep the optimum contact between the head and the tape, thereby to enable high density recording and reproduction.
