　Befunolol点眼液を，原発開放隅角緑内障11例，高眼圧症7例，計18例に投与し，次の結果を得た。

（1）8週間の二重盲検試験において，0,25,0.5,1％いずれのBefunololも有意の眼圧下降を示した。1年以上の長期投与においても，有意の眼圧下降が保持された。

（2）二年以上の経過において涙液リゾチーム濃度，角膜内皮細胞面積には，有意な変化は見られなかった。

（3）脈拍は投与後1カ月までは減少したが，その後は投与前の水準まで回復した。瞳孔径，全身血圧には，変化は見られなかった。

（4） Befunolol投与により，軽度の刺激感，頭痛，結膜充血，角膜びらんが数例に出現した。また，アレルギー性眼瞼炎が1例出現した。

We evaluated the possible ocular effects of topi-cal befunolol hydrochloride, an β-adrenergic block-ing agent, in a group of 18 cases (36 eyes) with pri-mary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Instillation of 0.25, 0.5 and 1% befunolol twice daily decreased the intraocular pressure in 8-week double blind study. Significant decrease in intraoc-ular pressure was still present after further 8 weeks of maintenance therapy with the least effective con-centration of befunolol. Instillation of befunolol for longer periods induced sustained reductions in in-traocular pressure.
