STAGE executive control

Published:01 January 1961Publication History

ABSTRACT

When digital computers are used to implement solutions of extremely large problems, certain difficulties arise which are peculiar to the machine rather than the problem. Some of these difficulties are (1) storage of large, unpredictable amounts of generated data; (2) retrieval of generated data; (3) management of the computer hardware. This paper discusses in a general manner the approach used in designing the executive control package and control tables for the STAGE system. The complete STAGE system is a Simulation of a Total Atomic Global Exchange—a two-sided war involving, principally, flying objects using nuclear weapons.
