ABSTRACT
NSSI (Non-suicidal self-injury) is the intentional self-harm of individuals without the intention of ending their lives. This study aims to investigate the connection between non-suicidal self-injury and emotion regulation while exploring the mediating role of self-esteem. Utilizing the widely recognized medical terminology SNOMED CT as the core ontology, we curated a dataset of 4945 papers on self-injury. Knowledge graphs of NSSI were constructed through semantic annotation. Employing semantic query methods, we identified relevant papers discussing the relationships between NSSI behavior and various concepts related to self-esteem. Results from systematic literature analysis led to the following conclusions: self-esteem directly influences non-suicidal self-injury through emotion regulation strategies. Individuals with lower self-esteem levels may be more prone to adopting negative emotion regulation strategies, consequently elevating the risk of non-suicidal self-injury. The knowledge graph approach provides a more intuitive understanding of the intricate relationship between non-suicidal self-injury and emotion regulation.
