OTT Contents Identification based on Audio Capture and Analysis in Android Mobile Platform

Published:29 August 2023Publication History

ABSTRACT

As the consumption of media content shifts from traditional broadcasting to OTT platforms, a large amount of OTT-exclusive content is being produced and distributed. In order to appropriately evaluate the value of content distributed via OTT, it's necessary to have impartial viewership measurements conducted by an independent third party, instead of solely relying on data from OTT service providers. One method for third parties to survey OTT viewership is by capturing the content being viewed on OTT devices through separate software, then identifying and recording this content by comparing its fingerprint with a database of content fingerprints. This paper proposes a method for capturing screen and audio on Android, a representative mobile OTT device, thereby making such identification possible. The feasibility and limitations of screen and audio capture are examined for representative OTT services.
