Contribution and Innovation of Paku Buwana X in Education

ABSTRACT

Being innovative and responsive to changing times is a necessity in response to the development of science and technology to produce qualified human resources in their fields. This study aims to find out the contribution and innovation of Paku Buwana X in carrying out educational reforms as he reigned in Negari Surakarta Hadiningrat. Paku Buwana X reformed the education to produce resilient human resources responsive to changing times. Paku Buwana X, who reigned in Surakarta from 1893 to 1939, through his innovation in education, wanted the people of Surakarta to be able to respond to the changing times by establishing educational institutions at various levels based on local culture. Historical method was used because the object of the study occurred in the past. From the study conducted, Paku Buwana did reforms in education by building educational institutions to obtain qualified human resources. Hollandsch Inlansche School (HIS) Kasatriyan, HIS Pamardi Putri, Frobelschool Pamardi Siwi, and Madrasah Mamba'ul Ulum are concrete manifestations of Paku Buwana X's contribution and innovation in education.
