Woman who had baby with Down’s syndrome after not being screened wins bid for compensation

The mother of a 4 year old boy with Down’s syndrome has won a High Court battle for compensation from an NHS trust that failed in its duty to ensure that her wishes to undergo prenatal testing were properly carried out.1

Edyta Mordel, then aged 28, was pregnant for the first time and was booked for all usual first trimester scans at 12 weeks in July 2014. But the sonographer recorded, “Down’s testing refused,” and the combined ultrasound nuchal translucency test and blood testing were never carried out.
