Genesis of Organochlorine Compounds in Crude Oil and Petroleum Products (A Review)

  • Published:
Petroleum Chemistry Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

This review systematizes and summarizes the available published data on the genesis, nature, and structure of organochlorine compounds (OCCs) detected in crude oil and petroleum products. The main aspects related to the sources of chloride formation in crude oil are discussed. It is demonstrated that the abnormal manifestations of OCCs in crude oil are associated with the artificial addition of chemicals that contain OCCs and/or their precursors as well as with the application of hydrochloric acid mixtures to intensify oil inflow.
