Abstract
The validitiy and the assigment of the genus Willungia Powell, 1938, to the higher systematics is clarified. The genus is based on Willungia tasmanica Powell, 1938, from the early Miocene of Tasmania. Cypraea ovulatella Tate, 1890, from the late Eozän of South Australia is also assigned to the genus. The assignment of Marginella fracta Tomlin, 1916, is doubtful because the species is based on a damaged and deformed holotype. Also the assignment of Willungia maoria Powell, 1938, from the Miocene of New Zealand cannot be confirmed because the shell morphology differs essentially from the type spezies.
Kurzfassung
Die Validität und die systematische Einordnung der Gattung Willungia Powell, 1938, wird geklärt. Die Gattung basiert auf Willungia tasmanica Powell, 1938, aus dem frühen Miozän Tasmaniens. Zur Gattung gehört auch die Cypraea ovulatella Tate, 1890, aus dem späten Eozän Südaustraliens. Die Zugehörigkeit von Marginella fracta Tomlin, 1916, bleibt zweifelhaft, da diese Art auf einen unzureichend erhaltenen Holotypus basiert. Ebenfalls kann die Zuordnung von Willungia maoria Powell, 1938, aus dem Miozän von Neuseeland nicht bestätigt werden, weil diese gehäusemorphologisch von der Typspezies abweicht.
