Abstract
Previous investigations on Termitomyces in the Republic of Congo by Roger Heim from 1942 to 1977 provided a list of seven species, of which T. entolomoides and T. striatus var. aurantiacus were reported for the first time. Heim also mentioned a high possibility for T. clypeatus to occur in the country. Whereas Termitomyces species represent more than 80% of the edible mushroom sold in markets of Brazzaville, our understanding of species of this genus is still poor. Thus, forty-five years after Heim’s records, we propose a comprehensive taxonomic account of twelve Termitomyces species occurring in the Republic of Congo based on fieldwork and market monitoring for a cumulative period of thirteen years from 2008 to 2021.
