First Record of Metriorhynchidae (Crocodylomorpha, Mesosuchia) in the Upper Jurassic of Russia

Abstract
The first Russian metriorhynchid, from the Volgian of the Russian platform, near Ulyanovsk, is described. The abundant ammonite fauna permits a precise dating of this site. The skeleton comes from the Zarajskensis subzone, corresponding to the base of the upper Tithonian. The skeleton is represented by some remains including cranial and postcranial bones. This indeterminate metriorhynchid extends the palaeobiogeographic distribution of the family which was previously restricted to South America and western Europe.
Kurzfassung
Im Volgian der Russischen Plattform wurde bei Uljanowsk der erste Metriorhynchide in Rußland gefunden, bestehend aus fragmentären Resten des Schädel- und postcranialen Skeletts. Eine reiche Ammonitenfauna datiert die Fundschicht ins Ober-Tithon. Der Fund erweitert die bekannte Verbreitung der bislang nur in Westeuropa und Südamerika nachgewiesenen Familie.
