Abstract

This paper discusses the readability of paragraphs in Chinese body-text. The main purpose of this paper is to reveal the appropriate way for constructing an easy-to-read paragraph based on the relationship between tracking and leading; it has a huge impact on one's impression toward the readability of paragraphs in Chinese.
While the result of the survey shows that a paragraph in Chinese will be most easy to read when the tracking is under 0 to +1/8 and the leading is in between 3/4 and full-width due to Chinese's preference of spacing out each characters.
