Abstract

This paper examines the development of commodity flows of Northeast Vietnam that draw attention to the development of logistics hubs in the relation to strategic freight transport corridors. For such objectives, the methodology consists of developing a logistics demand modelling framework as a variant of the traditional four-step modelling process but considering the type and scale of the logistics chain used between regions in the study area. The strategic freight corridor of Hanoi-Laocai, located in Northeast Vietnam, serves as a case study to implement and calibrate the model using the macro-simulation software tool PTV Visum. The research results have revealed that the commodity flows on the corridor are forecasted mainly transported through intersections between Hanoi – Lao Cai Highway and the National Routes involving Lao Cai border-gate, Hanoi city, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh provinces. From the implementation, the author proposes measures on logistics hubs development along the corridor to improve commodity flows from the Northern areas of Vietnam to the Yunnan and Western provinces of China.
