Certa (UK) Limited has commented on the Environment Agency publication The State of Contaminated Land in England. The report states that by March 2002, 33 sites had been identified as contaminated, 11 of these have been designated as special sites and remediation has started at seven sites. Certa remarks that it is encouraging that by July 2002, 94 per cent of local authorities had produced their written strategy for inspecting their areas for contaminated land and many authorities have now started inspecting. The new regime is that introduced by part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 which was implemented in 2000.
