Ultra-Scan Corporation, the licensor of patented high-accuracy livescan ultrasonic identification systems (LUIS), has announced that ComnetiX Computer Systems Inc. of Toronto, Canada has signed a multi-year license. Under terms of the agreement, ComnetiX will market, integrate, and distribute Ultra-Scan's full line of patented ultrasonic fingerprint readers, AFIS fingerprint matching software and related technologies in solutions for law enforcement and public safety customers, as well as other markets.

Ultrasonics sets standard for "enrollability," usability and accuracy

Ultrasonic fingerprint technology, which was developed and has patents held by Ultra-Scan, is widely recognized as the most accurate method for true identity biometrics. Ultrasonics uses high-frequency sound waves to create a digital representation of the fingerprint regardless of dirt, grease, newsprint or other common finger contaminants that plague conventional scanners.

An important characteristic of ultrasonic readers is the proven ability with the technology to enroll virtually anyone while legacy scanners, typically optical technology, fail to read and enroll significant portions of the population, for example, older people, people with dry skin, people with petite fingers or fine ridge structures, often Asian women and children, and some people with dark skin. Ultrasonic readers are also easy to use and, unlike optical devices, do not have to be frequently cleaned and replaced. In addition to its ability to enroll anyone, the Ultra-Scan system, by delivering images of unrivaled quality, can currently match prints against a database at accuracy levels that statistically approach 100 percent.
