BASF expands production capacity for effect pigments – New Paliocrom® Red for innovative paint design

BASF is investing 4M euros by the end of 2004 in a 30 percent expansion of production capacity for Paliocrom® effect pigments in Ludwigshafen, Germany. This is a reaction to the strong demand that BASF has been experiencing in recent years for Paliocrom® Gold and Paliocrom® Orange. BASF effect pigments are growing faster than the market for chromatic effect pigments, which is growing at approximately 5 percent per year. BASF's goal is to keep growing faster than the market, particularly with new products. With its new Paliocrom® Red, BASF is systematically following its chosen path. Research and development at BASF have developed Paliocrom® Red, an effective pigment which gives designers scope for new styling opportunities in innovative paint design. The new effective pigment with its high gloss, very pure shade and excellent hiding power reaches a unique brilliance which has been never attained before in the red colour range. In combination with other colour pigments, this opens up the undreamt possibilities across the entire colour spectrum. Fields of application are the effective paints in the industrial and automotive coatings segments.
