Just months after the appointment of a new management team at gas turbine disc forger UEF Aerospace Lincoln, the company reports that it has beaten off existing manufacturers to gain a share of shaft production for Rolls-Royce.
UEF informs us that investments totalling £2 million are now being made in dedicated plant at its Lincoln facility, including an open die forging press and new heat treatment and machining facilities for shafts.
Commenting on the contract win, UEF Aerospace commercial director Mark Bolton said:
The new management team has undertaken a comprehensive review of all our activities and we have been actively looking to diversify into shafts and asymmetrical parts. We regard this order as a major new market opportunity and we will be aggressively chasing gas turbine shaft work worldwide.
The shaft order comes during a period of growth for UEF Aerospace. A major refurbishment programme is also under way at the facility which will see a complete re-layout of forging activities and investments in new equipment to increase capacity and improve efficiency.
