Nigel Foden EdmondsonGrundfos A/S Bjerringbro, Denmark

is the recipient of Gunter Wittenberg Award for Excellence for his paper

"Generic flexible assembly system design"

which appeared in Assembly Automation , Vol. 22 No. 2, 2002

Nigel Edmondson is 28 years old and lives with his partner Anita and 6 month old son Matthias in Silkeborg Denmark. Nigel Edmondson is English and moved to Denmark in 1998 whilst completing his Masters degree.

Nigel Edmondson graduated from Loughborough University in 1998 with a First Class Honours Masters degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management with the Diploma in Industrial Studies. Following his graduation he began working for Grundfos A/S in Denmark who are a world leader in pumps. During his first 3 years at Grundfos, he developed and implemented a novel flexible assembly system for low volume product assembly, the result of this work lead to a number of patents, and awarded with Doctor of Philosophy from Loughborough University in 2001, specializing in economic generic automatic flexible assembly.

At present, Nigel Edmondson is Grundfos's Senior Specialist for Design For Assembly and has recently taken over responsibility for Grundfos's Process 6-sigma aproject, where he is responsible for project coordination and the training of Grundfos's fifty 6-sigma experts. Nigel Edmondson has been involved with the development of over 20 new product concepts and has been responsible for several manufacturing technology and robotics projects. Nigel Edmondson has also recently become a member of Assembly Automation Journals Editorial Advisory Board.
