Saccharomyces cerevisiae alcohol dehydrogenase I crystallized as trigonal plates using 20% 2-propanol and 20% PEG 4000 in 0.1 M sodium citrate buffer pH 5.6 in the presence of 1 mM NAD+. The crystals diffract to 3.0 Å resolution and belong to the trigonal space group P3121 or P3221, with unit-cell parameters a = b = 146.3, c = 68.1 Å, α = β = 90, γ = 120°. X-ray data were collected from frozen crystals at the 17-ID beamline of the Advanced Photon Source. A Zn fluorescence scan of the crystal produced a peak at 9671.6 eV, suggesting the existence of Zn ions in the crystal.
