Some complexes of Rhodium and Iridium halides with organic sulphides (thioethers)

Abstract

The reactions of rhodium trichloride with monosulphides give mer-[RhCl3(PhSR)3](R = Me, Et, Prn, or Bun), and fac-[RhCl3(PhSR)3](R = Et, Prn, or Bun). Rhodium(I) sulphide complexes are much more difficult to characterise, and only polymeric materials were isolated. Iridium(I) and iridium(III) have a low affinity for mono- and di-sulphides, and the compounds isolated do not seem to be very like the analogous phosphine complexes.
