Template synthesis, structure and properties of a bis(macrocyclic) dinickel(II) complex based on a 14-membered hexaaza unit

Abstract

Template condensation of [Ni2L2]{H6L2= tetrakis[1-(3-methylisothiosemicarbazono)ethyl]ethane} with 3-ethoxyacrylaldehyde in dimethylformamide resulted in a new type of dinickel(II) bis(macrocyclic) complex, in which two hexaazamacrocyclic subunits are linked by a single C–C bond. The complex was characterized by means of spectral analysis (UV/VIS, 1H NMR, electron-impact mass), magnetic susceptibility measurements and X-ray analysis. Peculiarities of the crystal structure in comparison to related mono- and bi-nuclear species were revealed.
