High-valent paramagnetic ruthenium(IV) complexes containing multianionic chelating ligands as efficient catalysts for alkene epoxidation; X-ray crystal structure of 2[RuIV(chbae)(PPh3)(py)]·Et2O·2H2O [H4chbae = 1,2-bis(3,5-dichloro-2-hydroxybenzamido)ethane; py = pyridine]

Abstract

The reaction of 1,2-bis(3,5-dichloro-2-hydroxybenzamido)ethane (H4chbae) with Ru(PPh3)3Cl2 yielded [RuIV(chbae)(PPh3)2] which in turn gave [RuIV(chbae)(PPh3)(py)](py = pyridine) upon treatment with pyridine; the [RuIV(chbae)(PPh3)(py)] complex has been characterized by magnetic susceptibility measurement (µeff.= 3.08 µB) and X-ray crystallography and found to catalyse the epoxidation of alkenes in the presence of iodosylbenzene.
