Wacker reaction in supercritical carbon dioxide

Abstract

It is reported for the first time that the Wacker reaction can be carried out smoothly in supercritical carbon dioxide or ROH/supercritical carbon dioxide. Results show that both scCO2 and co-solvent can remarkably affect the selectivity towards methyl ketone and the presence of ROH accelerates the reaction. The mechanism of the Wacker reaction in scCO2 is also discussed.
