Abstract
IN addition to 5-hydroxytryptamine (5HT) and 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid, a neutral metabolite of 5HT could be demonstrated in the incubation medium of isolated platelets of the rabbit by paper and thin-layer chromatography. This metabolite develops the typical green-yellow fluorescence of 5-hydroxyindolyl compounds in short-wave ultra-violet light if acidified with 4 N hydrochloric acid. With Folin–Denis reagent it shows the blue colour characteristic for phenols1.
