Abstract
Function-based interventions are more effective at decreasing problem behaviors in comparison to interventions that are not based on function. However, there are many other variables to consider while planning to decrease problem behavior in addition to the function of behavior. Contextual variables such as setting, age, language, culture, and many more are necessary to increase the efficacy and impact of interventions for clients and their families. In this chapter, we describe how behavior analysts can consider contextual variables to increase the effectiveness, quality, and potential social acceptability of their interventions while discussing established function-based treatments.
