Italian Language and Culture in Mozambico: 2008- 2012
abstract
Africa is today one of the ‘emergent markets’ for Italian as a foreign language. In Africa, Mozambique holds a relevant position as far as Italian as a foreign language is concerned, as a consequence of the role that Italy has played in the appeasement process at the turn of the century. The essay starts with a brief section dealing with the language repertoire of Mozambique and with the history of its relations with Italy, and then explores the situation of Italian as a foreign language in universities, schools and other agencies. Some trends are discussed as a conclusion.
