Description

One of the most common endocrine diseases in children is Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Type 1 DM is seen due to insulopenia and hyperglycemia as a result of damage to beta cells of the pancreas under the influence of genetic and environmental factors. The most important complication is ketoacidosis, which is the cause of mortality-morbidity. In diabetes management, complications can be delayed with appropriate nutrition, physical activity, daily insulin therapy, blood glucose monitoring, follow-up of complications, lifestyle changes. In pediatric patients, especially adolescent, being independent, self-actualization, a sense of control, hiding the disease by thinking that they are different make chronic disease management difficult. It is thought that by applying holistic care to the patient with systematic nursing care and model use, it will be beneficial for the patient to manage diabetes, develop coping mechanisms. In this article, the use of the Neuman Systems Model in the nursing care of an adolescent child diagnosed
with Type 1 DM with ketoacidosis is explained.
