Zusammenfassung
Forschung zu betreiben heißt, an einem weit verzweigten Netz an Wissen und Erkenntnis weiterzuspinnen, an Bestehendes anzuknüpfen und daraus Neues zu entwickeln. Dieses Wissensnetz reicht weit zurück in die frühe Geschichte der Menschheit und findet seine erste Systematisierung in den Schriften der griechisch-römischen Philosophie. Fragen nach dem »Wozu« und dem »Wie« menschlichen Handelns, was ja die motivationspsychologischen Fragen schlechthin sind, wurden von allen einflussreichen Philosophen über die Jahrhunderte hinweg in der einen oder anderen Weise behandelt, bis sie mit den Anfängen der wissenschaftlichen Psychologie Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts Eingang in psychologische Theorien menschlichen Erlebens und Handelns fanden.
