He seemed to be at every concert, was always aware and supportive of composers and performers of the so called “uptown” school -of which I was a part of at the timeand he presented to me a concerned and yet slightly intimidating presence because of his immense intelligence and knowledge. I tried to unravel the articles he(and others) wrote and I really worked hard on the music that I played at the time(which I never really understood).
