■ Accurate assessment of the patient with leg ulceration is vital
■ Patients with significant arterial disease must be identified
■ Checking for foot pulses is essential
■ Doppler ultrasound will confirm or exclude the presence of arterial disease
■ The nurse should be aware of the less common causes of leg ulceration
■ Where there is any doubt, medical advice should be sought.
