The saddest debate of all

Jean Gray Editor in chief

According to the latest poll by The Times, 95 per cent of people now favour assisted suicide for those with a terminal illness. The RCN, however, estimates that its membership is split down the middle, a big factor in its decision to abandon opposition in favour of a neutral stance towards changes in the law. Perhaps it is unsurprising that nurses, who have chosen a profession primarily dedicated to saving lives and enhancing quality of life, are less likely to favour decisions that end life.
