Lymphoedema: care in the community

Anne Williams Research Fellow/Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse, Napier University/NHS Lothian

Community nurses need to develop their assessment skills in relation to patients with lymphoedema and be aware of referral pathways to localspecialist lymphoedema services, says Anne Williams

Lymphoedema has been identified in over 1.33 per 1,000 of the UK population but, despite this, resources for managing chronic swelling are limited, particularly in the community (Moffatt et al 2003).
