Promoting the sexual health of young people: part II

Rachael Smith Lecturer, Nursing and Quality Development Co-ordinator, University of Southampton School of Nursing and Midwifery

In the second part of her article, Rachael Smith discusses the theoretical approaches underpinning sexual health promotion and education

The first part in this series discussed young people’s sexual activity and considered some influencing factors related to their knowledge and skills in this domain. Young people’s developing sexuality and the means to promote their sexual health effectively are complex areas to explore. In the second part the author discusses some theoretical approaches to enable health professionals to have a sound underpinning to the practice of sexual health promotion and education.
