Bathroom space did not transform into the model we see presently until after 1920s. Both in the East and West, bath and toilet have always been separated into two spaces following two different evolvements. The purpose of this study is to generalize the initial positioning of bathroom space based on literature review, analyze the spatial functions and status of the bathroom, discuss the evolvement of the bathroom space, and suggest the future trend. The analysis showed that the modern bathroom space and traditional bathroom have different appeals, including functions of the components, expectation and planning of the space, and existing meaning and usage. Therefore, this study concluded the future trend of bathroom space to be “a healthy, comprehensive, and multi-functional space”, “technological, environmentally-conscious, and furniture-like components”, and “open, entertaining, and personalized style”. The conclusions can be provided to designers and businesses for references, thus, incorporating academic theories with practices.
